Called together by their 29-year-old parish priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, these men formed a fraternal society that would one day become the world’s largest Catholic family fraternal service organization. They sought strength in solidarity, and security through unity of purpose and devotion to a holy cause: they vowed to be defenders of their country, their families and their faith. These men were bound together by the ideal of Christopher Columbus, the discoverer of the Americas, the one whose hand brought Christianity to the New World. </p><br> <p style=\"color:#4e433a;font-weight:bold;\">Their efforts came to fruition with the incorporation of the Knights of Columbus on March 29, 1882. They were Knights of Columbus. The Order has been called \"the strong right arm of the Church,\" and has been praised by popes, presidents and other world leaders, for support of the Church, programs of evangelization and Catholic education, civic involvement and aid to those in need. Father McGivney’s founding vision for the Order also included a life insurance program to provide for the widows and orphans of deceased members. The Order’s insurance program has expanded substantially to serve more effectively the Knights’ growing membership.</p><br> <p style=\"color:#4e433a;font-weight:bold;\">Year after year, the Knights of Columbus has earned the highest possible quality ratings for financial soundness from A.M. Best and Standard and Poor’s. The Order provides the highest quality insurance, annuity and long-term care products to its members, along with many other fraternal benefits. Supreme Council is the governing body of the Knights of Columbus and responsible for development of the organization. Members working in local, or subordinate councils, however, carry on the majority of the Knights’ beneficial work.</p> </li><li>[separator]|</li><li>Chapter History</li><li><br><p><img src=\"images/NassauChapter.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"float: left;margin: 4px;\" /></p> <p style=\"color:#4e433a;font-weight:bold;\">The Nassau Chapter was founded in 2001. The Nassau/Suffolk Chapter was originally made up of councils from both Nassau and Suffolk Counties. Its membership represented nearly 100 Long Island councils. Today, both Nassau and Suffolk Counties have their own separate Chapters. Stephen Tommony served as Nassau Chapter's 1st President. His 2-year term began in 2001 and ended in 2003. Stephen Tommony's administration, Nassau Chapter's very first, included Marvin \"Ray\" Dalton as Vice-President, Michael Murtha as Secretary, and Edward Ciulla as Treasurer. The Chapter's second administration, from 2003-2005, was led by;</p><br> <p style=\"color:#4e433a;font-weight:bold;\">President Marvin \"Ray\" Dalton. This 2nd administration included Michael Murtha as Vice-President, Edward Ciulla as Secretary, and James R. Bellotti as Treasurer. The third administration, from 2005-2007, officially ended up being led by President Edward Ciulla supported by Vice-President James R. Bellotti, Secretary Steve Connelly and Treasurer William J. McDonald. Today, Nassau Chapter's 4th administration is in the capable hands of Chapter President James R. Bellotti, Vice-President Steven A. Connelly, Secretary James Wall, and Treasurer Michael T. Murtha. We all look forward to a another positive, constructive, and productive 2 years. </p></li><li>[separator]|</li><li>Chapter Meetings</li><li><br><p>H<img src=\"images/NassauChapter.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"float: left;margin: 4px;\" />.</p> <p style=\"color:#4e433a;font-weight:bold;\">Nassau Chapter meetings are normally scheduled on the 3rd Friday of each month, starting at 8 PM.<br><br>The location of these monthly meetings changes from month to month. Different Nassau councils take turns hosting the Chapter meetings and providing the delicious repasts. These monthly, general, Chapter meetings are open to any and all Brother Knights carrying their own 3rd Degree Membership Card.
